Do you want to upgrade the look of your kitchen? Then you should pay attention to the cabinets. Those kitchen cupboards of yours are not just for storing lesser-used items alone. In fact, cabinets are one of the most important kitchen features in terms of design. People tend to notice the cabinets first upon entering a kitchen. Which means that the appearance of your cabinets will heavily affect the impression of other people about your kitchen.

The best way so far when it comes to taking your kitchen cabinets to the next level is by kitchen cabinet refacing. This method consists mainly of three simple steps which involve the following:

3 Simple Steps to Transform Your Kitchen Cabinets

  1. Take out the doors and drawers then cover the front edges of the cabinets with peel-and-stick wood veneer

Make sure that each of the drawers is already empty. If you have some handy tools with you, begin the process by unscrewing the hinges from the face frame. You should as well remove or modify the drawer fronts.

Pro tip: There are two types of drawers. The majority of cabinets today possess a separate piece of drawer front and can be removed through the screws from inside the drawer. On the other hand, there are drawer fronts that are already attached to the drawer sides. In this case, you have to take the drawer out and get rid of the overhanging parts of the fronts with the use of a saw. Before applying a peel-and-stick wood veneer, don’t forget to clean the end panels so that the adhesives will bond well.

  1. Install the new doors with cup hinges

Create a hole in the drawer sides by drilling a pilot hole. You can do this to positioning the hinge and marking its center to be used as a guide. Once done, drive a screw through the top hinge plate until it reaches the stile. You can now attach the bottom hinge and the new doors afterward.

  1. Attach new fronts to your existing drawers.

Take the drawer box and align it by marking and drive screws through the drawer into the drawer front. Review the length of the screw to ensure that the screws won’t exceed through the face of the new drawer front.

You can bring the refacing project to an end by putting cove moldings and adding additional accessories and hardware!
